Online conference
This conference will invite you to explore the importance of citizen action in the good governance of food systems and in the policies that shape them.
The first part of the conference will consist of a presentation by Peter Schmidt, President of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment Section (NAT) of the European Economic and Social Committee; expert in the field of food systems, sustainable development and circular economy. Peter Schmidt will reflect on the urgency of transforming food systems into a model that promotes human and planetary health while ensuring human and social rights. He will also focus on the primary role of civil society as an agent of transformation, dialogue and governance in food systems.
Civil society initiatives allow the creation of closer links between producers and consumers, highlighting new ways of producing and consuming, of developing resilient local economies and defending the rights of people and nature. We will learn about this transformative power from different organizations, both from Catalonia (such as the Catalan Food Council, the Food Charter of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region, Manresa City Council’s right to food security strategy and Territory of Connections of Vall del Corb), and from abroad (Ede Food Council, Netherlands). Speakers from these organizations will share their views and experiences in a forum. The conference is intended to be a space for exchange; therefore, the forum will be followed by a “Q&A” session to welcome the public participation.
This conference is organized by CADS and Fundesplai and is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Simultaneous interpretation (Catalan/English) will be available.
