Fundesplai and the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) have launched the project STOP FOOD WASTE: Preventing food waste in educational spaces. The main goal is to prevent food waste and promote sustainable habits in environments such as school canteens and holiday camps. This initiative continues the actions already being carried out during midday educational time.
The project combines educational activities, awareness-raising, and applied research, aiming to foster real changes in how food is consumed in educational settings. In doing so, it promotes more sustainable practices.
A unique methodology against food waste
The project systematizes an educational methodology for preventing food waste, already in use in various midday educational spaces managed by Fundesplai. It will now be tested in 50 school canteens and 4 holiday camps, involving more than 11,000 children, families, and professionals.
While Fundesplai leads the educational component, UVic-UCC is responsible for research and validating results to ensure the model’s effectiveness.
Education for sustainable eating
Sustainable school canteens and holiday camps are key spaces for promoting healthy, waste-free eating. They also offer opportunities to work on values such as coexistence, environmental responsibility, and food awareness.
Commitment to the future
The project will run for 24 months and is co-financed by the European Single Market Programme. This initiative reinforces Fundesplai’s commitment to food sustainability and educational transformation, contributing to the fight against food waste in schools and leisure settings.
In fact, Fundesplai has been working for years to reduce food waste through various actions:
- Educational proposal (2022–2023)
- Educational resources to reduce food waste
- Guide against food waste in school canteens
