On May 16, Fundesplai / 7 and Tria participated in the presentation of the ‘Guide for the prevention and reduction of food waste in school canteens‘, promoted by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, together with other entities in the sector. The purpose of this document is for school canteens to prevent food waste.
The guide is structured in 10 steps that midday education time managers can follow to develop and implement the plan for reducing food waste. In this sense, it is proposed to weigh wasted food and analyze the results, or design an educational program so that children are aware of how they can take advantage of food.
This year’s educational proposal of Fundesplai / 7 i Tria has focused on working for the reduction of food waste, emphasizing the impact on the educational time of noon. For this reason, some of the proposals included in the guide have already been carried out in the educational centers managed by Fundesplai / 7 and Tria.
An example of the work being done is the project ‘Let’s serve ourselves as at home’, through which Fundesplai / 7 i Tria aims to promote self-management of the meal, since the child is served alone taking into account their degree of satiety. As Oriol Carbonell, director of school programs Fundesplai / 7 and Tria, explains in the guide, “the act of serving yourself helps to become aware of the amount of food necessary for your body and thus reduces the food on the plate that does not end, and ends up in the garbage”.
