If you are studying at university, or already have a university degree, you can now be a mentor and help reduce social inequality. A thousand young people are waiting for you!
From Fundesplai we are leading a social research project with Next Generation funds that aims to evaluate the impact of mentoring on university access for second-year baccalaureate or higher-level training cycle students.
- We have already obtained the 130 centers we needed in Catalonia to be able to carry out the study.
- We have already designed the social mentoring program that we will offer: the Hedera program.
- We are already collecting registrations from students who want to have a mentor, and there will be many!
Hedera: volunteering to get you involved in equal opportunities
For many young people, deciding which way to go is not easy and the accompaniment of a mentor who has gone through this experience can be of great help to them. It is about supporting them in practical aspects such as choosing a bachelor’s degree, applying for scholarships or enrolment, offering them emotional support throughout the process.
For you it is an opportunity for personal growth, to gain experience in social mentoring together with many other volunteers, and to contribute to the improvement of your environment, and equal opportunities.
Do we make “Wonderful mentoring” possible?
The mentorship is contemplated from March to November 2023, but if you receive the information once this period has started, do not hesitate to sign up: it is very possible that some young people are waiting to have a mentor!
What is social mentoring?
- A personal development relationship in which a more experienced person in a specific area accompanies another with less experience or knowledge.
- The mentor is a volunteer, receives prior training and has the support of a technical person who accompanies and supervises the mentoring process.
- The main objective is to promote the social and personal development of the mentee.
What does Hedera mentoring consist of?
If you are a mentor at Hedera:
- You will accompany a young woman from the 2nd year of Bachillerato or CFGS in their possible passage to the University through periodic meetings, usually virtual, lasting approximately an hour and a half
- You will receive prior training and you will have support from an educational technician from the Hedera team throughout the process.
- You will have material at your disposal to be able to accompany you with confidence, as well as virtual meeting spaces with the rest of the mentors with whom you can share doubts and experiences.
How do I know if my profile is suitable?
Hedera’s mentors can be:
- Students of any bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral course.
- People who have recently finished their university studies and are working.
- People with university degrees who do not meet the two previous points, but who have a clear vocation for volunteering, some knowledge of the university system in Catalonia, and experience with young people and adolescents.
- In all cases, they are people over 18 years of age, sensitive and empathetic, with the ability to communicate, listen, organize and adapt.
Why be part of it?
- To get involved in a project with social values and work for social transformation and equal opportunities.
- To live a process of personal growth and develop social and personal skills.
- To develop experiences and skills from volunteering that can help you improve opportunities in the labor market.
- To obtain mentoring accreditation.
- To obtain credit recognition for the bachelor’s degree you are studying if there is an agreement with your university.
- To accompany a young person in a life stage that may be difficult and for which you have already passed.
- To give, receive and learn from the bond that is established.
How long does it last?
- The mentorship is contemplated from March to November 2023, but if you receive the information once this period has started, do not hesitate to sign up: it is very possible that some young people are waiting to have a mentor!
What do I have to do to register?
- Fill out the registration form. It’s short!
- Afterwards, we will ask you to fill out a second form to get to know yourself better and to have enough information to propose a mentee with whom you can understand each other well. We will also send you more detailed information about the mentoring.
