This summer two colleagues from Fundesplai participate in the International Volunteering project with Guatemala. The initiative is part of the Esplai Sense Fronteres program that Fundesplai deploys with entities in network with Latin America at an international level.
International volunteering is an opportunity to learn about another way of doing and being, with an experience in the host organization: being in contact with other professionals, knowing the social, economic and cultural reality of the destination country, contributing to the demand and need of the local partner, and learning of the multiple day-to-day experiences. They have bought the flight, and the host entity offers them meals and accommodation.
Luci will be a volunteer in the “multigrade” schools project (rural schools) of the entity in the Chiquimula area, supporting teachers, making intervention with children in multigrade classrooms and participating in an annual meeting of directors of educational centers.
La Virginia will support the systematization and a project throughout Central America, on the theme of the Culture of Peace, apart from knowing the educational centers of Fe y Alegría Guatemala.

Experience, change of air, learning, stepping on Latin American lands for the first time, living in another reality of the world and that I can contribute something …
- At what point are you in the preparation of the project and the trip?
Initial, and working together with Ivonne and the contacts of the schools what will be my contributions, schedules, etc. I’m also about to get my vaccines!

- What motivates you to volunteer?
Live an enriching personal and professional learning experience, contribute my skills and knowledge, and get to know Guatemala and its context.
- At what point are you in the preparation of the project and the trip?
We have had a first meeting with the local partner entity “receiving”, I have bought the ticket and I am waiting to finalize my agenda there.
