On Monday, September 14, the school year began. Thousands of children and young people have returned to school at a time marked by the exceptional nature of the Covid-19 prevention measures. This Saturday, September 19, monitors from Fundesplai’s educational centers and esplais will participate in a virtual training day on pedagogical resources to assist children in times of pandemic.

And with the return to the classroom also comes the return of the noontime educational space, after-school activities, school camps, hostels… and all the educational activities that accompany formal education. From Fundesplai we have prepared during this summer the safe return of all these educational spaces: we have developed new action protocols, implemented hygiene measures and reorganized some spaces.

All measures are aimed at guaranteeing maximum safety for children, young people, monitors, families… and guaranteeing the right to educational leisure.

It should be noted that the return to school comes after a summer in which, despite all the health limitations, it has been possible to organize activities such as camps, summer camps, work camps, etc. where thousands of children and young people and monitors have participated with a low incidence of Covid-19.

Formation of the teams

One of the key elements of the beginning of the school year is the training of the educational teams of schools and esplais. In this sense, Fundesplai organizes two training days for monitors of esplais and schools that renew and unify the format of the days at the beginning of the course. The first one will be totally virtual and will take place this Saturday, September 19, and the second one will be semi-presential and will take place on Saturday, October 24.

This Saturday’s conference will feature an inaugural lecture by Cristina Monge,  political scientist, executive advisor at ECODES and professor of sociology at the University of Zaragoza, entitled  “Changing the world after the pandemic, an opportunity to rethink education”. Subsequently, different virtual training rooms will be organized where participants will take part in different workshops such as educational technology tools (apps, video games, etc.), emotional education and grief management or how to deal with racism and explain migration processes within the framework of the NuSOS educational proposal.

Previously, a virtual meeting with coordinators and cooks of the school canteens in which Fundesplai is present was organized on September 9, where topics such as the new hygiene-sanitary protocols in the kitchen, the organization of teams, etc. were addressed.
