The Advisory Board of the Esplai Foundation, at the state level, promotes a debate on educational change…
The Advisory Board of the Fundación Esplai, at the state level, promotes a debate on the educational change that our country needs to achieve the main purpose of education: to train citizens. Aware of the contributions of Catalonia, the proposal aims to weave confluences between the multiple experiences and reflections that are being generated in different territories and sectors, inside and outside the school.
The questions of the debate
The debate begins in a virtual forum between April 18 and May 30 and will continue in face-to-face conferences that will take place in autumn in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and in those places where the protagonists of the educational community want to promote it.
The forum starts from a base document and proposes five basic questions.
- What is the basic training that every citizen should have?
- What are the essential functions and commitments of education professionals in the new educational task?
- How can we educate in citizen participation and democratic life?
- What are the confluences between “school time” and “free time”?
- What objectives, actors and contents should make up a State Education Pact?
We live immersed in a deep crisis that we know is systemic and that affects all areas of our lives. Education is no stranger to this context and its current state is sickly and with an uncertain prognosis. Poverty, failure and inequality are also present in education. On the other hand, perhaps never before has the gap between what the education system provides and what society and its citizens need become so evident.
This rather disturbing panorama coexists with an extraordinary drive for change and energy. In recent times, multiple projects of educational change of great value have emerged. These are unequal, asymmetrical, complementary experiences, with very diverse origins and origins but with a common and solid determination. We are witnessing a positive bottom-up effervescence of different realities that are not globally addressed but that point to coinciding objectives of educational transformation.
The Advisory Board of “Fundació Esplai. Committed Citizenship”, aware of the importance and transcendence of this fact, wants to contribute to the great task of promoting educational transformation in our country.
We want to identify the keys to success and educational strategies necessary to generalize educational change in our country. We invite you to provide guidelines for the great dream of transforming education at the service of people and the community.
In Catalonia, the debate on educational transformation in schools has been raging for months. The added value of the proposal is that it wants to share this reflection with people and projects from the rest of Spain and, on the other hand, wants to transcend schools and seek all complicities between formal education and that which occurs outside the classroom and schools. In this sense, the plenary session of the Advisory Council of the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai on March 9, 2016, held a first debate on this issue.
We invite all those people, groups and educational experiences, formal and non-formal, interested and committed to childhood and education in our country to contribute their proposals for change aimed at “educating citizens”.
