On Saturday, June 24, the first Fundesplai bus left for the camps, thus launching the entity’s summer activities campaign. This first group was made up of 30 children between 8 and 12 years old and the team of monitors of the Club d’Esplai Tricicle (Sant Joan Despí) of Fundesplai who enjoyed 7 days at the Les Feixes camp, located in the Can Mateu complex, next to the Sau reservoir.
Fundesplai this year offers more than More than 1,100 rounds of activities for children and young people from 3 to 25 years old, including camps, camps, routes and work camps and camps for families, in which more than 82,000 places for children and young people under the motto “Let’s make a better world possible!”.
“Spending a few days in contact with nature, sleeping one night under the stars, making new friends, discovering new environments through excursions, collaborating in the recovery of a natural area or learning new technological skills are some of the experiences that thousands of children and young people will live this summer in the campaign ‘Let’s make a better world possible!’ ” he said Cristina Rodríguez, General Director of Fundesplai. Rodríguez has also highlighted the need for educational leisure in summer to be a space for equality: “From Fundesplai we want all children and young people, regardless of their socioeconomic situation, to be able to participate in camps and for this reason we call on individuals, entities, companies and administrations to collaborate in the solidarity campaign “Let’s make possible a summer for everyone!”
Casals, nature camps, artificial intelligence campuses, drones, music and marine biology
In the activities children and young people will do workshops, games, outings, citizen science activities, sports, gymkhanas… that will allow them to get to know nature better, approach technological challenges such as artificial intelligence, drones, programming or learn to protect marine biodiversity, among others. In this playful and educational way, they will know and commit to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is the axis of the campaign whose slogan is “Let’s make a better world possible!”.
Among the outstanding activities of Fundesplai for this summer are the summer cots that offer more than 2,200 places for children from 0 to 3 years old with a pedagogical proposal adapted to this age; The camps where children can do workshops, games and excursions and discover natural environments of their towns and cities; the Colonies nature, sports…; The Work camps where young people will contribute to recovering an environment of natural, historical or social interest; technology fields on Artificial Intelligence and Drones with the collaboration of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and El Periódico; Music and journalism campus with the newspaper ARA; Marine Biology Campus with the CRAM Foundation; etc.
Ensuring equity in summer
From Fundesplai, we also have the commitment that all children and young people can enjoy leisure activities, for this reason for more than a decade we have organized the solidarity campaign “Let’s make a summer possible for everyone!” through which fundraising is carried out and scholarships are awarded to families who are in a situation of vulnerability so that their sons and daughters can participate and enjoy summer activities. In 2022 we were able to award a total of 7,995 scholarships and grants for summer activities, which represented a 25% increase compared to 2021.
In this regard, it should be noted that this year we have a forecast to maintain them due to the economic effects of inflation on many households whose ability to cope with the cost of these activities has been compromised. So far, 8,020 scholarships have been awarded, a similar number to the 7,995 in 2022, but the campaign is still open. In addition, from Fundesplai we are confirming that the amount of the request for help is higher than last year, which would reflect how the economic situation could be affecting families.
