On the weekend of April 16 and 17, the #Agofedesplai took place, the assembly of theFederació Catalana de l’Esplai  and the esplais that are part of it, and where the  20th anniversary of the  entity was celebrated.

The main event of the weekend took place on Saturday and included interventions by Mercè Conesa, president of the Diputació de Barcelona, Marta Vilalta, Director General of Youth of the Generalitat, Josep Gassó, president of Fundesplai, Marc Alcaraz, president of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai, and Elisabeth Ferreres, Mayor of Montesquiu.

In his words, Conesa stressed the importance of joint work between esplais and municipalities and assured: “the child is the citizen of the future and esplais are a key piece in their training and emotional accompaniment”. For her part, Marta Vilalta highlighted the work of monitors and their contribution to social cohesion. Josep Gassó said that esplais are an example of social commitment, an idea with which Marc Alcaraz agreed.

About 400 monitors from all over Catalonia

In total, about 400 monitors, monitors and recreation managers from all over Catalonia who belong to the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai participated. The meeting was held in the Montesquiu Castle Park, in Montesquiu (Osona), where the general assembly took place on Saturday morning, just before the main event. The assembly agreed, among other initiatives, to promote activities in favor of refugees, strengthen gender work in entities and promote a reflection group on generational change in esplais.

On Saturday afternoon, there were more playful activities and on Sunday morning the traditional Technical Day was held, where educators can participate in workshops on new pedagogical resources while sharing experiences on leisure education from different territories.

Recreational anniversaries

In addition, the anniversaries of several esplais were also celebrated: the most veteran, at 45 years old, are Esplai Mowgli (Cornellà de Llobregat), Esplai Can Serra (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat) and Esplai Els Cargols (Subirats); they are followed by Esplai Tricicle (Sant Joan Despí, 30 years old), Esplai Giravolt (Masquefa, 20 years old), Esplai Picapins (Aiguafreda, 15 years old), Esplai Marcianet (Sant Bartomeu del Grau, 15 years old), Esplai Fontsanta (Cornellà de Llobregat, 10 years old), Esplai Salsa Jove (Girona, 10 years old) and Esplai Riu Roig (Rubí, 5 years old). Many representatives of these groups had the opportunity today to blow out candles for their respective birthdays.

#20anys20cims

Apart from the collective celebration of this weekend, throughout 2016 the Federation is developing different educational, emblematic and symbolic events to commemorate the 20th anniversary, and help give more visibility to the social and educational work of leisure education in our municipalities. Among these, it stands out #20anys20cims, related to the educational proposal Ways about hiking, and in which different esplais are crowning the most emblematic peaks of Catalonia.
