Last Friday, June 6, the Catalan Ombudsman delivered the report on children’s rights to educational leisure and school outings and camps to the president of the Parliament of Catalonia, Núria Gispert. This report is the result of joint work carried out by a commission created at the initiative of the Catalan Ombudsman and made up of various entities representing the sector in Catalonia.
During the presentation of the document, the Catalan Ombudsman warned that situations of inequality in access to educational leisure are occurring, it was found that these activities combat social inequalities, which Leisure promotion policies are among the most affected by economic restrictions and that regulatory deficiencies, lack of social aid and inequalities of access are main deficits of educational leisure in Catalonia.
To combat this situation, the Catalan Ombudsman’s report proposes, among others, to develop normatively the right of children to educational leisure under equal conditions, create economic aid for socially disadvantaged children, develop local plans for the revitalization of educational leisure and recognize and promote educational leisure agents.
