Last Saturday, November 28, eight days after the International Day of the Rights of the Child, 50 children between 6 and 17 years old and 30 monitors met at the Palau Macaya to participate in the “Seminar for the Promotion of child participation in the governance of social entities in Catalonia”.
The working meeting promoted and coordinated by the Catalan Childhood Platform (PINCAT), has had the participation of Fundesplai, FEDAIA, Minyons Escoltes i Guies de Catalunya, Fundació Pere Tarrés, Order of St. John of God, ECAS and Social Initiative Cooperatives and many of its member projects and entities, has allowed to work and discuss around child participation with its own protagonists and from those things that really fill and occupy their activities, interests and needs. It has also allowed to know first-hand experiences and good practices of child participation regarding the decision-making processes of the organizations in which they participate.
The participating entities committed to introducing the participation of children in the governance of the entities, collected these commitments, which will have a new milestone in June, when the children and monitors will meet again to share the path traveled, since it is necessary to be able to demonstrate that the participation of children in this level that is proposed is possible.
This is the first meeting of children in Catalonia to discuss an aspect that until now had not been addressed. The voice, ideas and opinions of children must be able to serve to improve social entities, which work with and for children, from a clear position where children must not only participate in the activities of the entity, but must be part of the decision-making bodies and must be able to be active subjects in the process of social transformation carried out by social entities.
