Participants have called against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and for peace.

More than 250 monitors and recreation managers from the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai met this Saturday, March 12, at the headquarters of Fundesplai in El Prat de Llobregat at the Agofede, the annual meeting of the entity that this 2022 has once again been totally face-to-face, but with all the Covid-19 prevention measures set by the health authorities.

The conference was attended by Àlex Sastre, director general of Youth of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Esther García, councillor for Youth of the City Council of El Prat, and Sheila Beltran and Maria Ferrer, of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai. 

In his words, Satre He stressed: “It is necessary to recognize leisure education as a tool for social transformation and claim its role as an essential part of education”, and assured that the Government will guarantee support for leisure entities and has invited them to actively participate in the definition of youth policies.

García thanked that the meeting was held in El Prat de Llobregat and highlighted the role of monitors as an example of civic commitment for children and young people. Finally, Beltran expressed his satisfaction at being able to hold a face-to-face meeting after so many months of difficulties due to the pandemic and Ferrer appealed on behalf of the Federation against Wars and highlighted the importance of recreation in peace education.

After the interventions, the Agofede also included a recognition of the esplais that celebrate anniversary and a welcome to the new entities that have joined the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai and that now has 133 esplais and leisure projects and 1,914 monitors. 

Training workshops to offer pedagogical and management resources 

The second part of the day was dedicated to training workshops for monitors. In total, 11 have been organized, among which ‘Put yourself in their skin’, to raise awareness about the mental health of adolescents, especially due to the consequences of the pandemic; ‘#AlNatural’, which addresses the problem of overpackaging food; ‘Gender and ICT #ChicasInTech’, to promote female references in the field of technologies; ‘Sensory experiences’, to learn about materials and resources for working with people with disabilities; or ‘Empowering recreation’, to promote leadership in leisure entities that facilitate relays.    

On Saturday afternoon, the XXV Assembly of the Federation was held, which addresses the summary of the projects and activities carried out in 2021, the 2022 action plan and the step to a new mandate of the board of directors, which will work to give continuity to the new social and educational challenges, while continuing to strengthen the entities and the movement. 

The participants also took part in a guided tour of the exhibition “Menja. Acts. It impacts sustainable and healthy food.
