Josep Gassó, president of the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai (Fundesplai), took part in the 2014 assessment of the Census of entities promoting the Catalan language of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The event took place on Tuesday, June 17 at the Palau Moja (Barcelona) and was chaired by the Minister of Culture, Ferran Mascarell, and brought together representatives of the different educational, social and sports entities… that make up the census.
In the presentation, Mascarell highlighted the value of the work carried out by entities in promoting the language and presented the latest census data, which indicate that in 2014 the organizations that form part of it have grown by 18% to 142.
For his part, Josep Gassó highlighted the role of leisure centres and educational leisure centres in general in promoting Catalan, especially in neighbourhoods with social needs, and added that esplais are becoming schools for citizens.
