Josep Gassó stressed that he is totally convinced that, together, we will overcome the situation created by this crisis and that he maintains all his commitments both to the workers and to the children, young people and their families. In this regard, he stressed that during the months of April, May and June, the necessary salary supplements will be guaranteed so that all workers maintain their purchasing power. Also the commitment to seek the necessary resources to be able to organize an extraordinary summer activities campaign.
The general director, Cristina Rodríguez, stated that this coming summer all children should be able to enjoy activities that allow them to return to play with their friends in the midst of nature and recover their emotional balance. He affirmed that the leisure sector is prepared, following the indications of the health authorities, to draw up and apply the relevant protocols so that the activities can be held with all the guarantees.
He also explained that for Fundesplai it is an absolute priority to ensure that no child misses out on summer activities for economic reasons. This will only be possible if there is significant funding from the Generalitat and local administrations, aid that is expected to be articulated in the coming days. Also to ensure fairness in access to colonies and homes, he explained that for weeks Fundesplai is promoting a solidarity campaign to raise funds to provide aid to families in more vulnerable situations.
In addition to the organization of the summer campaign, during these weeks of confinement Fundesplai continues to promote various projects for the most disadvantaged groups, as well as for children, youth, families, third sector organizations and workers. Josep Gassó thanked the commitment of all the administrations, entities, companies and individuals, without whose support Fundesplai would not be able to promote all these projects.
Infrastructures and part of the human team to attend to the most affected groups
Fundesplai is allocating part of its infrastructure and human resources to assist the groups most affected by this crisis. This was explained by Inés Cosmen, Director of the CENTRE ESPLAI Shelter, which for weeks has been hosting people in vulnerable situations and in its kitchen more than a thousand meals a day are prepared and distributed to vulnerable people in Barcelona. Also, about 150 unaccompanied foreign minors are being cared for in three summer camps and in a shelter, and teams of monitors take care of the children of parents admitted by Covid-19.
Educational leisure for all children and their families
Fundesplai has brought together in the new portal #YomeQuedoenCasa all the organization’s online resources. Núria Gassó, head of digital content, explained that, among other contents, this portal is ensuring that educational leisure activities reach all children and their families, with innovative and imaginative proposals such as the escape room “The lost summer of the Bolboreta” or a playful test so that children can explain how they would like their summer to be and discover, in the end, which activity is the most suitable for them.
1,000 hours of online training and new cycle of webinars
By May, the Fundesplai training center will have delivered some 60 courses with more than 1,000 hours of online training, especially of an educational nature. This is explained by its head of studies, Marc Alcaraz, who also pointed out that this past week has begun a series of webinars – one-hour online conferences or seminars – completely free of charge, which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday and will deal with topics as varied as interculturality or psychological first aid for children.
Support and advice to more than 1,100 entities to face this crisis
The last weeks have been very intense in the Third Sector Support department of Fundesplai. This is explained by its manager, Víctor García, who states that, now more than ever, organizations need support and advice in the labor, legal and economic fields or to be able to implement systems that make teleworking possible. Since the onset of the crisis, more than 1,000 consultations have been attended and 60 temporary employment regulation proceedings have been filed so that these entities can guarantee their viability.
Personalized communication to serve each employee
From the first moment the state of alarm and the closure of schools and esplais was declared, the Human Resources Department set up a mechanism to provide a rapid response to the more than 3,500 workers of the entity. The head of the department, Jordi Roman, highlights the fact that all labor procedures have been guaranteed and, as a novelty, an action called ‘Polar Star’ to be closer in terms of communication with all employees and guarantee personalized treatment.
