Healthy and sustainable food is a lever for change. This is the premise of the EUKI project “Climate Action to the Table”, shared with the organisations Umanotera, from Slovenia, and Fifty-Fifty, from Greece.
As a result of this alliance, the three entities have produced an educational guide and an interactive digital escape room that propose activities related to the topic of interest for children and teenagers. Both materials describe the activities step by step, to be an inspiration, especially for educators in formal, non-formal and informal settings. They are also addressed to any person, organisation or governmental body interested in the link between food and climate change.
The guide also includes proposals for activities with all the necessary information: goal, recommended age, materials needed, etc. However, it recommends adapting the activities to the context and needs of each group of children, the educational setting and the region. This toolkit aims to promote taking awareness-raising measures related to sustainable food in educational settings and encourage the participation of children and young people in caring for the environment.
Seven basic principles govern all the offered materials: prioritise the consumption of plant-based products, choose food produced in organic or biodynamic farming, put an end to waste, consume seasonal food, buy food produced as close and as fairly as possible, avoid packaging as much as possible and Prioritise fresh products over processed ones.
