This Saturday, February 27, the Agofedesplai was held, the annual day of the Catalan Federation of Esplai which was done electronically. This is one of the most important participatory moments of the year where more than 300 monitors from the leisure centers have taken part.
At the beginning of Agofedesplai21 Sheila Beltran, president of the Federation, highlighted the resilience of the teams of monitors who had to face summer activities and a start to the course with a changing landscape due to the Covid-19 pandemic and successive restrictions. Maria Ferrer, vice-president of the Federation, assured that children’s and youth associations are paying a heavy price for this crisis, which endangers the continuity of many organizations, and called for more support and recognition from the administrations.
He also intervened Carles Xifra, Director of Innovation and Contents of Fundesplai, who affirmed that esplais have a compensatory social function for children and young people in vulnerable situations, one of the reasons that make them now more than ever essential. This initial part concluded with the words of Laia Girós, General Director of Youth of the Generalitat de Catalunya, who thanked the effort of leisure orgnaizations and monitors both in summer and during the academic year despite all the limitations due to the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic and advanced the centrality that young people must have in public policies, in the forthcoming preparation of the National Youth Plan, and also highlighted the social role of esplais, essential for children and young people in vulnerable situations.
“Leisure does not freeze”
The vindication of the essential educational and social role of the esplais that took place during the Agofedesplai was extended during the afternoon, since both the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai and the esplais that are part of it joined the campaign “El lleure no es congela” that carried out a series of actions in the public space. with the aim of claiming “the right” to leisure for all ages and stressing that this is “safe”.
In this way, we wanted to claim the opening of leisure for all ages and not only for children under 12 years of age, as established by the restrictions of the Procit.

Anniversaries and technical day
The 2021 edition was the 24th edition of the Federation Day that included the balance of 2020, the presentation of the strategic lines of activity for 2021, the technical day and the annual assembly.
The Agofedesplai began with the welcome to the new entities that become part of the Federation, the celebration of the different anniversaries of entities and also the 25 years of the Federation itself.
Subsequently, the traditional technical day was carried out -also telematically- with a total of 11 training activities in the technological, creative, methodological fields… Designed to be able to replicate them in leisure activities, adapting them and providing resources to be able to make online recreation.
