On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), Fundesplai and the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai are organising the #MéspontsMenysmurs campaign.
Sunday 21 March marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, established by the United Nations in 1966. A date to remember that on the same day in 1960 the police of Sharpeville (South Africa) opened fire and killed 69 people in a peaceful demonstration against apartheid laws.

On the occasion of this day, Fundesplai and the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai organize the #MéspontsMenysmurs campaign, an artistic and collective action to be carried out in schools, esplais, bressols, etc., against intolerance, racism and xenophobia and that is part of “NuSOS”, the educational proposal for global citizenship.
The campaign highlights the need to eliminate physical walls (fences and walls that shield borders against migrants) and mental walls (stereotypes, prejudices, racism and xenophobia) and build bridges as a symbol of rapprochement.
Walls that become bridges
Fundesplai and the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai propose that children and young people create civic walls in public spaces and educational spaces that stage the transformation of the walls that separate people into bridges that connect them.
This recreational and educational initiative aims to encourage children and young people to value diversity positively, reject any discriminatory attitude, learn to recognize stereotypes and prejudices and actively participate in the fight against racism and xenophobia.
Action in social networks
The campaign will also be an action that will spread to social networks, since during the week of March 15 to 21 we will share the networks with the photographs of the murals and the messages with the label #MéspontsMenysmurs and on the last day we will make a large virtual mural with all the contributions.
