About 70 young people from five esplais of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai have participated in “Educlips”.
The creation of audiovisual productions with social themes is, for some years now, a very significant educational initiative in the field of leisure and that we promote from the Catalan Federation of Esplai under the name of Educlips. The project has been carried out during the first term of the 2020-2021 academic year thanks to the involvement and collaboration of the children’s animation group Xiula and with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat and the Barcelona City Council.

About seventy young people between 10 and 17 years of age have participated from the Bellvitge Esplai Club (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat), Club d’Esplai Pubilla Cases – Can Vidalet (L’Hospitalet – Esplugues de Llobregat), Club d’Esplai El Tricicle (Sant Joan Despí) and the Xino-Xano Leisure Association and the Esplai La Tortuga (Barcelona).
The experience has allowed the participants to reflect and approach various realities while providing them with all kinds of learning competences and skills related to the world of cinematographic arts.
The Educlips project also places emphasis not only on audiovisual creation, but also on musical creation. The young people have created and written the lyrics of the music videos. It is also worth mentioning the promotion of Catalan from the use of musical language and digital technologies among young people.
Awareness-raising, music, video and dissemination
The creation of video clips is carried out in four phases: the sensitization of young people around the phenomenon of migrations, refuge and injustices ensuring global citizenship based on emotional bonding; the recording of the song and the music video with the support of the animation group Xiula; and the dissemination of the project itself.
In all these phases, it is ensured that the groups of young people themselves are the protagonists of the entire process, empowering them as agents of change in society, developing their critical spirit towards injustices and the feeling of belonging to the organization, the neighborhood and the municipality. The creations have a very personal factor, expressing life situations of young people themselves, anxieties, fears, joys, synergies and desire to promote social change.
Xiula is a children’s entertainment group whose members have been linked to educational leisure and music from an early age. In addition to their songs, and thanks to their training in the educational and social field, they develop workshops for schools and leisure entities, deepening the reflection and critical spirit of children and young people about the needs and conflicts of people in our society.
