Youth from esplais of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai have made videos on Tik Tok to raise awareness about sexual and affective diversity, the barriers encountered by people with functional diversity or against bullying and racism.

A total of 81 young people from five esplais of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai have produced 13 Tik Tok videos to raise awareness about different social issues such as affective and sexual diversity, the fight against bullying and racism or the limitations that people with disabilities face. The creations have been made by young people with the support of educators, and already have more than 8,000 views on the social network. The creations can be viewed on the Tik Tok account.

This is an initiative of the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai and Fundesplai with the support of the Department of Language Policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council. She uses audiovisual creations to work with young people on different social topics that interest them and use Catalan as a vehicular language.

The esplais that have participated have been theEsplai Macedònia, from Castelldefels – Diverse Capacities; Esplai Espurnes, from Esplugues de Llobregat – Gender equality; Esplai Pubilla Cases Can Vidalet, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat- Cultural diversity and interculturality; Esplai la Tortuga, from Barcelona – Sexual orientation; and Esplai Tropezando con Suerte, from Barcelona – Bullying.

In previous editions the creations had materialized in music videos for YouTube, but on this occasion they have been adapted to the short video platform Tik Tok, very popular among young people.

Protagonism of young people

Groups of young people have been protagonists from the first moment. They began with a participatory process, with a strong emotional component, in the choice of topics, based on their own life experiences.

From the initial moment until the elaboration of the scripts, the recording and dissemination of the videos, all phases had the support of the educational teams of the young people of the entities, as well as Alberto González, member of theLumo Association, dedicated to the performing arts as a method of social transformation.

Third edition

This is the third edition of Educlips. The first was held in 2020 and involved nearly seventy young people between 10 and 17 years old from the Bellvitge Recreation Club (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat), Club d’Esplai Pubilla Cases – Can Vidalet (L’Hospitalet – Esplugues de Llobregat), Club d’Esplai El Tricicle (Sant Joan Despí) and the Xino-Xano Leisure Association and the Esplai La Tortuga (Barcelona), who produced five video clips and had the collaboration of the popular musical group Xiula.

The second edition it was in 2021 and featured the esplais Druida (Barcelona), Esplai GISC (Grup Infantil Sant Cosme, El Prat de Llobregat), Esplai Guadalhorce (Terrassa), Esplai La Barretina (Sant Boi de Llobregat) and Esplai La Tortuga (Barcelona) and a video clip was made on gender violence with the support of the entity Cameras and Action.

It should be noted that the Federació Catalana de l’Esplai has been promoting audiovisual creations with young people since 2017. From the Federation and Fundesplai they work to create projects for young people where their voice and concerns have room to promote actions and activities that are born of their motivation, which is essential to know and explore the new ways of interacting and engaging young people. In order to reach young people, it is necessary to put themselves in their shoes, position themselves where they are and share spaces, have empathy with their needs and use their codes.

In this sense, social networks and audiovisual resources are channels of expression and, at the same time, become a very powerful educational resource: they involve teamwork, the acquisition of technical skills, critical thinking, productive management of ICTs and social networks, etc. These creations are intended to be a tool for young people to reflect on all these issues and be agents of change based on audiovisual creation that shows that relationship models based on equality and mutual respect and the demand for human rights are necessary and attractive.
