Alberto Garzón, Minister of Consumer Affairs of the Spanish Government, Maria Eugènia Gay, Government delegate in Catalonia, and Lluís Mijoler, Mayor of El Prat de Llobregat, accompanied by members of their respective teams, today visited Centre Esplai, the headquarters of Fundesplai in El Prat de Llobregat. At the meeting, Garzón, Gay and Mijoler met with Josep Gassó, Anna Romeu and Jordi Simó, president and vice-presidents of Fundesplai respectively, and other representatives of the entity.
Shared sustainability goals
At the meeting, the Minister of Consumer Affairs visited the exhibition “Menja. Actua. Impacta”, an exhibition on sustainable and healthy food that in less than a year of life has already received thousands of visitors and has become an educational reference. Also the pedagogical programs on food education such as ” Eating changes the world” promoted by Fundesplai and that reach more than 100,000 participants every year among children, young people and families. Likewise, Garzón has been able to know the Commitment of the entity with the reduction of the Energy consumption and water in the facilities of Centre Esplai, a benchmark facility in the field of sustainability that incorporates solar panels, geothermal, an efficient design for temperature regulation, solar lighting tubes and that allows reaching up to 50% water savings, among other things.

These are just some of the Fundesplai initiatives that promote sustainability and responsible consumption, framed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and that coincide with the objectives promoted by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
The event is included in a cycle of meetings that Fundesplai is holding with different institutional representatives, companies and entities, to publicize the present and future projects of the entity. Before the visit, Garzón met with the mayor of El Prat, Lluís Mijoler.
The representatives of Fundesplai have detailed in Garzón, Gay and Mijoler the educational, social and environmental programs promoted by the entity in schools, esplais, summer camps, etc. and future projects. Also the socio-educational work in the Sant Cosme neighborhood of El Prat de Llobregat, where Centre Esplai is located, the headquarters of Fundesplai that includes, among others, a kitchen and a hostel that is usually at 90% occupancy.
