The new Fundesplai Studies Center, inaugurated in November 2021, has been selected for the FAD Awards (Promotion of Arts and Design) 2022 in the Architecture section. The Fundesplai facility is the work of architects Carlos Ferrater and Núria Ayala, from OAB– Office of Architecture in Barcelona, and the OAB project has been carried out by the Fundesplai Heritage team in the Project Manager modality.
This training facility occupies an area of 1,400m2 and includes 14 classrooms, work rooms and a spectacular oval agora with capacity for 100 people. The building is on one floor and the classrooms are arranged on both sides of a wide central corridor that culminates in the aforementioned agora. It stands out for the design of open spaces that allow great luminosity and the combination of materials such as steel, concrete and wood.
The Study Center is part of the expansion of the Fundesplai headquarters that the entity inaugurated in November 2021. The other facilities that were inaugurated were the extension of the Centre Esplai Hostel and the new multifunctional space, which houses the exhibition Menja. Actua. Impacta. Since its launch, it is already hosting numerous courses aimed at young people, higher level training as well as different meetings and events such as the recent meeting of heads of international museums FORMS or the Digital Rights Forum.
In total, this year 542 works have been submitted to the FAD Awards, 434 corresponding to the FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design, 75 to the FAD Awards for Thought and Criticism and 33 to the International FAD Awards. Of these, the jury has chosen 27 finalist projects and has selected 68 more, including the Study Centre, which can be seen in the exhibition “The best design of the year“.
