This Saturday, February 8, CENTRO ESPLAI (El Prat de Llobregat) welcomed nearly 400 monitors  in the Agofedesplai. Watch the video!

Nearly 400 monitors and instructors from the 114 schools and leisure projects of the Catalan Federation of Esplai  participated   at the Agofedesplai, the meeting that included the assembly of the entity and the day of techniques, which took place at Esplai Center (El Prat de Llobregat) this Saturday, February 8. At the assembly, the following were presented  the 2019-2020 Management Report, which highlights the increase in the number of children and young people participating in the organization’s leisure centers to 18,421 (+7.5%) and the increase in the number of monitors to 1,696 (+12.2%).  In addition, the Federation’s main milestones for 2019 (summer campaigns, Universal Children’s Rights Day, etc.) and the challenges for 2020 were discussed, where the implementation of NuSOSthe educational proposal for global citizenship developed by the esplais and schools in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years.

Lecture by Nadia Ghulam

nadia interviewOne of the highlights of the meeting was the inaugural lecture by Nadia Ghulam, Afghan social educator and storyteller, who explained her experiences during the war in her country and how she applies this experience to her social work, especially with migrants. You can see an interview we did with him here.

Afterwards, Laia Girós, Director General of Youth, spoke, highlighting the importance of the work of monitors, many volunteers, in the education of children and young people.

The conference was followed by the training session. During the technical day, monitors were able to participate in different workshops that provided them with pedagogical resources for working with children and young people.

Many of the workshops that year were related to the NuSOS educational proposal. The formations were: “Artistic Expression for Social Denunciation”, which worked on education for global justice through artistic language; “Knitting Knots,  to learn how to design dynamics and ambience of spaces that reflect cooperation; “Living without plastic!”, where through five dynamics we try to avoid the use of this material; “First aid and actions in case of emergency”, where basic knowledge on health and first aid issues were worked on; “Resources to organize educational robotics workshops in your esplai”, which included 3D design or training to teach programming to children of different ages; “Cultural diversity and family”.to raise awareness of interculturality and learn to identify stereotypes; “The Star of Peace”to learn about the devastating effects of war and the importance of peace education; “Rumors and stereotypes: experiential tools for intercultural reflection.”to deepen and identify concepts such as cultural diversity, intersectionality….; “Animalium: small world and animal habitats”.playful resources for working with children and youth; and “Media and social networks, a breeding ground for machismo?”The project was a study of social networks, the media, etc. and how machismo appears and spreads.

The day ended with a collective action, a meal and recreational spaces.
