From last Tuesday, and until Sunday noon, more than 150 young people are participating in the 7th Youth Rights Week, an activity organized by Fundesplai that takes place in Centre Esplai (El Prat de Llobregat).
Youth Rights Week aims to generate spaces for youth participation and leadership that help promote critical reflection on the situation ofyouth rights in Catalonia, Europe and the world.
Debate with political representatives
Among the different activities of the Week, the debate held this Friday morning between the young participants and political representatives of the field of youth of different parties stands out. This debate has had an initial intervention by the Councilor for Youth of El Prat de Llobregat, Anna Maria Cuello and the general director of Youth, Marta Vilalta. Already in the debate the deputies of the Parliament of Catalonia have intervened Natàlia Figueres, from Junts pel Sí; Pol Gilbert, from PSC; as well as Cinta Gonzàlez of the national coordinating team of young people Izquierda Verde Catalunya YES que es puedes y Juan Manuel Rojas, member of the national secretariat of the CUP, as well as different young participants in the Week.
In the different interventions, reference has been made to the main issues that affect young people, such as housing, the use of public space, environmental sustainability, democracy and associations, the right to education and the right to work; and stressed the importance of empowering young people as a driver of social change, calling for the “transform-action”
The Youth Rights Week is inspired by the Semana por los Derechos de la Juventud that Fundación SES has held in Argentina since 2007 and which has also been adapted by entities from other countries such as Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico and Bolivia.
In Catalonia it is organized by Fundesplai and has the support of Erasmus+, the Ibero-American League and the city councils of El Prat de Llobregat and Barcelona, as well as the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.
