The Fundesplai Mentoring Program (Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai) consists of a methodology based on establishing bonds of trust and mutual respect between people who are in a normalized situation, and young people who participate in the different projects of the Youth, International and Social Area of the Fundesplai.
It is a social intervention tool that promotes relationships between volunteers, who offer themselves to provide individual support to people who are in a situation of social vulnerability. This methodology allows to approach to people from different social groups, promote commitment between mentors and young people to share experiences and knowledge and strengthen social cohesion.
The Fundesplai Mentoring program resumes its activity in January 2015, with a restructuring and greater intensity (given the new opportunities detected):
- Weekly meetings with the “D+D+Q” Mentoring team (Design, Development and Quality).
- A calendar with a limited and specific annual work plan.
- With an eye on having more volunteers: campaign to have a greater volume of mentors who support young people.
So let’s give a boost to all the work done so far!
Other novelties 2015:
- The new training in mentoring. A training focused on volunteers who will act as mentors. This training will deal with various aspects and tools that the volunteer needs to be able to do the task well. Designed in a theoretical-practical key and with the protagonists of this training are the mentors themselves.
- Finalize the process of incorporating Fundesplai into the reference entity in Mentoring in Catalonia: the Coordinadora de Mentoria Social de Catalunya http://mentoriasocial.org/es.
We also want to promote the voluntary spirit of the people who work in Fundesplai, thus opening the possibility of joining the Mentoring program as mentors and mentors.
What does it mean to be a mentor?
- Inform about the different resources available to young people.
- Guide both at work and training level, depending on the preferences of the young person.
- Advise on issues and concerns that may arise in the young person in their life process.
Time dedication:
- Training between 15-20 hours in social mentoring
- A meeting with the young mentee every fifteen days (2h)
- A commitment to the project of at least 6 months
