On Tuesday, November 25, the annual plenary session of the Fundesplai Advisory Council (Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai) took place at CENTRE ESPLAI, in which about 60 people from different fields (public administration, education, leisure education, environment, etc.) that make up this body participated.
The plenary session began with a speech by Núria Valls, deputy general director of Fundesplai, who reviewed the main milestones of the entity in 2014. Afterwards, Rafael Ribó, Síndic de Greuges, and Carme Gómez-Granell, director of the Institute of Childhood and the Urban World (CIIMU), spoke, whose words revolved around the situation of children in Catalonia.
Ribó highlighted the situation of inequality in access to educational leisure and called for the promotion and recognition of the importance of education in leisure, as it appears in the report he delivered to Parliament on June 6. In this sense, Gómez-Granell defended that supporting children and leisure is an investment, a thesis that appears reflected in the recent CIIMU study that specifies the positive effects for children of going to recreation and that used the Centre d’Esplai Pubilla Cases – Can Vidalet as one of the references. The interventions of Ribó and Gómez-Granell generated an attempted debate among the attendees.
The president of Fundesplai (Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai), Josep Gassó, concluded the meeting with an appeal because at the present time it is more important than ever for everyone’s involvement in the defense of children’s rights.
