Last Friday, September 26, took place at CENTRE ESPLAI (El Prat de Llobregat) the closing ceremony of the second edition of theSummer Solidarity Gymkhana, a recreational initiative that is part of the  campaign  “A summer for everyone”  of Fundesplai.

Last Friday, September 26, took place at CENTRE ESPLAI (El Prat de Llobregat) the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Summer Charity Gymkhana, a recreational initiative that is part of the campaign “A summer for everyone” of Fundesplai, which consists of a team competition with the aim of raising funds to help children and adolescents from families with economic difficulties to participate in summer camps. 

During the event, Josep Gassó, president of Fundesplai, took stock of the summer campaign where he highlighted that 4,560 scholarships have been awarded for children with social needs, 45% more than in 2013. In addition, Gassó highlighted that 1,400 activities have been organized in which more than 60,000 people have participated, 40% more than in 2013. Josep Gassó also thanked the commitment of public administrations, such as the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona and the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality or the Barcelona City Council;  companies and entities, such as Bardet Avant Group, Obra social de “la Caixa” or the Probitas Foundation; the media; The families and individuals who have made this initiative possible, with their contributions and participation.

Afterwards, Josep Oliva, deputy delegate for Social Welfare, Public Health and Consumption of the Diputació de Barcelona, spoke and explained that through initiatives like these,  equality in leisure education is promoted and the values of solidarity and inclusion are made possible. Finally, Núria Valls, deputy director general of Fundesplai, read a few words from Neus Munté, councillor of Social Welfare and Family, who was unable to attend the event, where she highlighted the joint effort to make leisure inclusive.

In addition, the closing ceremony was also attended by Miquel Puig, representative of International House and Manel Batet, representative of Cafès Novell, who together with the sports company Wala have supported the 2nd edition of the Solidarity Gymkhana. 

In this second edition of the Summer Solidarity Gymkhana, in which 30 teams with different activities have participated, the winners have been the team Sobre la Marxa, in first position; the Financial Times, in second; and Mar d’Amunt, in third. In addition, the Summer Raffle awards were also presented, through which many families have been able to self-finance the summer activities of their sons and daughters.

At the start, all participants received a gift with the songs that inspired the song “A summer for everyone!”.
