Young volunteers of the Catalan Federation of Esplai who have participated in an experience of recovery of the agricultural landscape of La Vall d’Ogassa (Ripollès) have received this Tuesday, March 18, one of the awards of the X Lluís Carulla Leisure Education Awards.

The award ceremony was held at the Palau Robert in Barcelona. The Lluís Carulla Leisure Education Awards aim to promote projects and recognize educational experiences and trajectories within the field of social and leisure education.

Agricultural landscape recovery project

The project of the Federació Catalana del Esplai awarded is a service learning experience in which more than 120 young people from nine recreations have participated over several weekends last October. This is a project of the Fundació Catalana del Esplai, with the support of the Obra Social de “la Caixa”, which has promoted the conservation of pastures and the territory of the Vall d’Ogassa, in El Ripollès, to promote the maintenance of the landscape and the management of rural areas. Specifically, the young participants restored a pond, a corralet and a water trough and recovered different pasture meadows and installed and geolocated owl nest boxes.

This initiative had the collaboration of the town’s environmental education team.

The jury valued the innovative and voluntary service offered in the municipality of Ibiza, the participation of young people in the construction of the project and the fact that it has been formulated in a way that has allowed a quality educational work, based on solidarity values, and that has positioned the growth of young people and the approach to the peasantry.
