On January 26, World Environmental Education Day<\/strong>, the EUKI project “Parem Taula pel Clima<\/strong>” organized the conference “Agroecology school: realities, challenges and perspectives”.<\/strong> You can catch up on the<\/a><\/strong> talk here.<\/p>\n

The first part of the evening was attended by Germ\u00e1n Llerena, environmental educator of the environment area of Sant Cugat City Council<\/strong>. His speech, entitled “Beyond the vegetable garden”, focused on the importance of incorporating agroecology into the educational plan of a school and on the need to bring farmers closer to schools.<\/p>\n

In this sense, Llerena presented two of her own books<\/strong> (written with the collaboration of more authors), which have examples of educational centers or entities that currently practice agroecology in Catalonia<\/strong>. The publications are entitled “School agroecology<\/a>“<\/strong> (Pol\u00b7len edicions, 2017), which can be downloaded free of charge; and “Land of learning. Twelve beautiful stories for school agroecology in Catalonia”<\/strong>, which will be available later this year.<\/p>\n

Some of the projects mentioned by Germ\u00e1n Llerena were Paid\u00f3s and Fundesplai<\/a>, focused on the <\/span>Organic food supply <\/strong>from the farmers of Collserola to school canteens; <\/span>We eat saints<\/a>, promoted by Sants Institute and which has managed to create a <\/span>Ecological consumption cooperative<\/strong> within the same center; or that of the<\/span>School April 21<\/a> de l’Aldea (Tarragona), which has devised a <\/span>Ecological school garden<\/strong> which studies the differences with conventional agriculture done in the village.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"EUKI<\/a><\/p>\n

The agricultural engineer specialized in organic farming<\/strong> and coordinator of training activities at the Vida Sana Association<\/a>, Montse Escutia, was in charge of closing the conference. Escutia presented several Educational resources<\/strong> to work in schools The eleven axes that make up sustainable food, which are: organic production<\/strong>, the ecological and extensive livestock<\/strong>, the sustainable fishing<\/strong>, the local consumption<\/strong>, the seasonal foods<\/strong>, the short chains<\/strong>, the Fair trade<\/strong>, food security<\/strong>, waste reduction<\/strong>, food waste<\/strong> and healthy and sustainable diet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some of the materials presented to work on the aforementioned areas were those of project Stop Wasting Food<\/a><\/strong>, promoted by Fundesplai and focused on food loss and waste; the School canteen season calendar<\/strong>, from theNGO Food Justice<\/a><\/strong>the video-story La guerra vegetal y el tomate perdido<\/a><\/strong>, from the Encinar School, focused on working on a healthy diet; or the Correlation<\/a><\/strong>, an educational proposal of the schools of the Alt Empord\u00e0 to collect waste derived from food.<\/p>\n

The conference was also attended by Luciana Lerho, consultant of the EUKI project “Parem Taula pel Clima”<\/strong>. Lerho highlighted the aims of EUKI, an initiative promoted by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) since 2017. Its main objective is to improve intra-European cooperation<\/strong> on climate protection<\/strong> and green transformation.<\/p>\n

With funding of more than 70 million euros<\/strong>, the programme has already carried out 179 projects throughout the European Union<\/strong>, with the participation of more than 300 organisations<\/strong>. Other objectives of the EUKI programme are to strengthen the role of civil society in climate action<\/strong> at regional, national and European levels, and also to create networks for the exchange<\/strong> of good practices.<\/p>\n

The EUKI consultancy presented two successful projects that were in line with the theme of the conference: “Clikis” and “Clikis Network”,<\/a> developed in Germany, Poland, Croatia and Estonia. <\/a> Both programs, now completed, focused on achieving more environmentally friendly catering systems<\/strong>, taking into account both healthy and seasonal foods and<\/strong> energy savings in school kitchens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
